Karumari Amman: Long ago, Devi took the form of a old lady who forecasts the fate, and went to Surya(Sun God). Surya Ignored Devi, so devi vanished. Immediately Surya started loosing his brightness. Realising his mistake he wanted Devi Karumari to excuse him. And thus Devi Karumari gets established in Thiruverkadu. She is also known as Naga Mari, Kumba Mari. Srinivasa Perumal - Vishnu visited Karumari Amman to see how she is ruling. Then Karumari asked him to stay there itself and protect her devotees. Thus Vishnu has a shrine here. Shiva as Ashtamukha, has eight faces and can be worshipped from any direction. Accordingly the names of Lingam here are: - Parvathi Lingam, Navamani Lingam, Bairavi Lingam, Sivanilai Lingam, Poorna Lingam, Sathyama Lingam, Karani Lingam and Varani Lingam

Sub History

At the time of Shiva, Parvathi wedding in Mount Kailash, the whole earth was gathered there to witness it. That created imbalance in the structure of world. Shiva sent Agasthya rishi to South to balance the weight. To enable Agasthya to see them, Shiva and Parvathy appeared before Agasthya here.
