About Temple

Main Deity : Palani Andavar - Murugan

Other Deities:Varasiddhi Vinayaka, Devasenā, Shanmuga with Valli, Bhairavar, Kāli, Meenakshi Amman, Chokkanāthar (Lord Shiva)

Origin of Name VadaPalani: There is this Palaniandavar temple down south on the top of Palani Hills. The inspiration for this vadapalani temple came from there. Since this temple is in the northern direction (Vada = vadakku=North in Tamil) of the original temple, the place where the temple is situated gets the name Vadapalani. Legend has it that Annasamy Naicker, who built this temple , got a picture of Murugan when he went to Palani Malai, Dindukkal, TN. He started praying to it in his home. Slowly he shifted his home base and started a small temple with thatched roof. The current temple has evolved from that.

Sub History

Lord Murugan is seen wearing slipper here. Special prayers here include paalkavadi, pushpa kaavadi, alagu kuttudal (piercing with spears), ear piercing and tonsuring hair. There is a shrine for Angarakan, the Navagraha for issues related to whome one is advised to worship Murugan
